Uzbeks migrants returning back home to change their passports fall into the “cotton trap”

One of the followers of Ozodlik sent a message about the ways of how people are forced to pick cotton in Uzbekistan:

“My brother came back to Uzbekistan to change his outdated passport. So he paid a visit to our local police office that is located on A. Somiy Street (5th micro-district, Bukhara).

However, my brother was told the he had to ‘take part in the cotton harvest if he wants to get a new passport’.”
